Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, fellow Americans, and people of the world: Thank you.

로버츠 대법원장님, 카터 대통령님, 클린턴 대통령님, 부시 대통령님, 오바마 대통령님, 친애하는 미국민 여러분, 그리고 전 세계의 국민들께 감사를 드립니다. 

 

We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and to restore its promise for all of our people. 

우리 미국인들은 지금 모든 국민을 위해 이 나라를 재건하고 약속을 회복하는 위대한 국가적 노력에 동참했습니다.

 

Together, we will determine the course of America and the world for years to come. We will face challenges. We will confront hardships. But we will get the job done.

 

Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, and we are grateful to President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition. They have been magnificent. Thank you.

4년마다 우리는 질서있고 평화로운 정권교체를 위해 이 자리에 모입니다. 정권교체 과정에서 물심양면으로 애써주신 오바마 대통령과 미셸 오바마 영부인께 감사를 드립니다. 그들은 매우 훌륭한 분들입니다. 감사합니다. (오바마 손을 흔들어 인사)

 

Today's ceremony, however, has very special meaning. Because today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one party to another -- but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the American People.

오늘의 이 행사는 매우 특별한 의미가 있습니다. 왜냐하면 오늘 우리는 단순히 행정부를 다른 정권 또는 다른 정당으로 정권만 이양하는 것이 아니라, 워싱턴DC가 이 나라의 국민인 여러분께 권력을 되돌려주는 날이기 때문입니다.

 

For too long, a small group in our nation's Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished -- but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered -- but the jobs left, and the factories closed. 

너무나 오랫동안 국민들이 비용을 떠안는 동안 우리 나라의 소수 집단은 정부의 보상금을 가져갔습니다. 워싱턴은 번창했지만, 국민들은 그 부(富)를 나눠 갖지 못했습니다. 정치인들은 번영을 누렸지만, 일자리는 사라졌고 공장들은 문을 닫았습니다.

 

The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation's capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.

기득권층은 우리 나라의 국민들은 돌보지않고 자기 자신들만 지켰습니다. 그들의 승리는 여러분의 승리가 아니었으며, 그들의 성공은 여러분의 성공이 아니었습니다. 그들이 우리나라 수도에서 축배를 드는 동안, 이 나라 곳곳에서 어려움을 겪고 있는 가정들이 축하할만한 것이라곤 조금도 없었습니다. 

 

That all changes -- starting right here, and right now, because this moment is your moment: it belongs to you. It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America. This is your day. This is your celebration. And this, the United States of America, is your country.

 

What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people. January 20th 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again. The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.

 

Everyone is listening to you now.

지금 모든 사람들이 여러분의 말에 귀를 기울이고 있습니다. 

 

You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement the likes of which the world has never seen before. At the center of this movement is a crucial conviction: that a nation exists to serve its citizens.

여러분은 지금까지 이세상에서 보지못했던 역사적 순간의 한 부분을 감당하기 위하여 수천 만 명의 사람들과 함께 이 자리에 모였습니다. 이 운동의 중심에는, 국가는 국민을 섬기기 위해 존재한다는 중대한 신념이 자리하고 있습니다.

 

Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families, and good jobs for themselves. These are the just and reasonable demands of a righteous public. 

미국인들은 그들의 자녀들을 위한 훌륭한 학교, 가족들을 위한 안전한 이웃, 자신들을 위한 좋은 직업을 원합니다. 이러한 것들은 공공 정의를 위하여 정당하고 타당한 요구들입니다. 

 

But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists: Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of knowledge; and the crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.

그러나 수많은 우리나라 사람들에게 다른 현실이 존재합니다. 엄마와 자녀들은 도심 빈민가에 갇혀있고, 녹슨 공장은 묘비처럼 드문드문 퍼져있습니다. 교육시스템에 돈은 넘쳐 나지만 우리의 젊고 아름다운 학생들은 지식을 빼앗겼고, 범죄와 갱들과 마약이 너무나 많은 생명과 이 나라의 사장된 잠재력을 빼앗아갔습니다. 

 

This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.

이러한 미국의 학살은 지금 바로 여기에서 멈추게 됩니다. (박수)

 

We are one nation -- and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny. 

우리는 한 나라이며 그들의 고통은 우리의 고통입니다. 그들의 꿈은 우리의 꿈이며 그들의 성공은 우리의 성공이 될 것입니다. 우리는 한 마음, 한 가정, 그리고 영광스런 한 운명을 나눕니다. 

 

The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans.

오늘 제가 한 공직 선서는 모든 미국인들에게 충성을 다짐하는 선서입니다. (박수)

 

For many decades, we've enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry; subsidized the armies of other countries while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military; we've defended other nation's borders while refusing to defend our own; and spent trillions of dollars overseas while America's infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay.

수십 년 동안 우리는 미국 산업을 지출하여 외국의 산업을 부유하게 했으며, 우리 군대는 슬프게 고갈되는 동안 다른 나라의 군대를 지원했습니다. 우리 국경을 지키기를 거부하면서 다른 나라의 국경을 지켰습니다. 수 조 달러를 해외에 쓰는 동안 미국의 인프라는 황폐해져가고 썩어갔습니다. 

 

We've made other countries rich while the wealth, strength, and confidence of our country has disappeared over the horizon.

우리 나라의 부와 힘과 자신감이 지평선으로 사라지고 있는 동안, 우리는 다른 나라를 부강하게 만들었습니다.

 

One by one, the factories shuttered and left our shores, with not even a thought about the millions upon millions of American workers left behind.

공장들은 차례로 문을 닫고 수백 수천만명의 남겨진 미국인 근로자들에 대해선 조금도 신경을 쓰지 않고 우리의 땅을 떠나갔습니다.

 

The wealth of our middle class has been ripped from their homes and then redistributed across the entire world.

우리 중산층의 부(富)는 그들의 가정부터 시작하여 송두리채 날아갔고, 빼앗긴 그들의 부(富)는 전세계에 재분배됐습니다.

 

But that is the past. And now we are looking only to the future. 

그러나 그것은 지나간 일입니다. 이제 우리는 오직 미래만 바라볼 것입니다. (박수)

 

We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power.

오늘 우리는 각각의 도시와 외국 자본과 권력자들에게 새로운 법령을 공포하기 위해 여기에 모였습니다.

 

From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. 

오늘부터 새로운 비전이 우리나라를 다스릴 것입니다. 

 

From this moment on, it's going to be only America First. America First!

지금 이순간부터 오직 미국이 우선시 될 것입니다. 미국 먼저! (박수)

 

Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs, will be made to benefit American workers and American families. We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies, and destroying our jobs. Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength.

무역과 세금, 이민정책, 외교문제에 관한 것들은 미국인 근로자들과 미국인 가정의 이익을 고려해 결정될 것입니다. 우리는 우리 제품을 만들고, 우리 기업을 훔치고, 우리 일자리를 파괴하는 다른 나라의 유린으로부터 우리의 국경을 보호해야 합니다. 국경의 보호는 위대한 번영과 힘을 가져다 줄 것입니다. 

 

I will fight for you with every breath in my body -- and I will never, ever let you down.

저는 제 눈에 흙이 들어가기 전까지 여러분을 위해 싸울 것이며, 여러분이 절대로 실망하지 않도록 할 것입니다. (박수)

 

America will start winning again, winning like never before.

미국은 과거에 보지 못했던 승리를 다시 맛보게 될 것입니다.

 

We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth. And we will bring back our dreams.

우리는 우리의 일자리와 우리의 국경과 우리의 부(富)를 되찾을 것이며, 우리의 꿈을 되찾아 올 것입니다.

 

We will build new roads, and highways, and bridges, and airports, and tunnels, and railways all across our wonderful nation.

우리는 우리의 멋진 나라에 새로운 길들과 고속도로들, 다리들, 공항들, 터널들, 그리고 철도들을 건설할 것입니다.

 

We will get our people off of welfare and back to work -- rebuilding our country with American hands and American labor.

우리는 우리나라 사람들이 복지 수당을 끊고 일할 수 있도록 미국인의 손과 미국인의 노력으로 이 나라를 재건할 것입니다. (박수)

 

We will follow two simple rules: Buy American and hire American. 

우리는 두 가지 간단한 규칙을 준수할 것인데, 그것은 미국 제품을 사고, 미국인을 고용하는 것입니다.

 

We will seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world -- but we do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first.

우리는 다른 나라들과 우호와 친선관계를 추구할 것입니다. 그러나 모든 나라는 먼저 자국의 이익을 위해 권리를 행사한다는 이해를 바탕으로 우리는 그렇게 할 것입니다. 

 

We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example we will shine for everyone to follow.

우리는 우리의 삶의 방식을 어느 누구에게도 강요하지 않지만, 오히려 우리가 삶의 모본이 되어 빛을 발하므로 모든 이들이 그 빛을 따라올 것입니다.

 

We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones -- and unite the civilized world against radical Islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the Earth.

우리는 오랜 동맹을 강화하고 새로운 동맹을 맺을 것입니다. 또한 문명국가들과 연합하여 과격분자 이슬람 테러집단을 막을 것이며 그들을 이 지구상에서 완전히 뿌리 뽑을 것입니다. (박수)

 

At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America, and through our loyalty to our country, we will rediscover our loyalty to each other.

우리 정치의 기반에는 미합중국에 대한 온전한 충성이 자리할 것이며, 우리의 조국을 위한 충성을 통하여 서로에 대한 우리의 충성을 재발견할 것입니다. 

 

When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice. 

여러분이 여러분의 애국심으로 마음을 열면, 편견이 차지할 공간은 없습니다. (박수)

 

The bible tells us, "How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity." We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity. When America is united, America is totally unstoppable.

성경은 우리에게 "보라 하나님의 백성들이 연합하여 동거함이 어찌 그리 선하고 아름다운가"라고 말씀합니다(시 133:1). 우리는 우리의 마음을 열어 말하고, 이견을 솔직하게 토론해야 하지만, 항상 결속을 추구해야 합니다. 미국이 하나가 될 때 미국을 막을 자는 아무도 없습니다. (박수)

 

There should be no fear -- we are protected, and we will always be protected. We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement and, most importantly, we are protected by God.

우리는 두려움이 없어야 합니다. 우리는 보호받고 있고, 항상 보호받을 것입니다. 우리는 가장 위대한 군대와 경찰의 보호를 받을 것입니다. 그리고 무엇보다 가장 중요한 것은 하나님의 보호를 받는다는 것입니다.(박수)

 

Finally, we must think big and dream even bigger. In America, we understand that a nation is only living as long as it is striving. We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action -- constantly complaining but never doing anything about it.

마지막으로 우리는 원대한 생각과 그보다 더 큰 꿈을 가져야 합니다. 미국에서, 나라는 오직 분투하는 동안만 존재한다는 것을 우리는 압니다. 우리는 말만 하고 행동하지 않는 정치인들과 끊임없이 불평하고 아무 것도 하지 않는 정치인들을 더이상 용납하지 않을 것입니다. (박수)

 

The time for empty talk is over. Now arrives the hour of action. 

빈 말 하는 시대는 지나갔습니다. 이제 행동할 시간이 왔습니다. 

 

Do not let anyone tell you it cannot be done. No challenge can match the heart and fight and spirit of America. We will not fail. Our country will thrive and prosper again.

그 누구도 여러분에게 할 수 없다고 말하지 못하게 하십시요. 미국의 정신과 투쟁과 기백에 도전할 수 없습니다. 우리는 실패하지 않을 것입니다. 우리나라는 번창해지고 다시 번영을 누릴 것입니다.

 

We stand at the birth of a new millennium, ready to unlock the mysteries of space, to free the Earth from the miseries of disease, and to hardness the energies, industries and technologies of tomorrow. A new national pride will stir our souls, lift our sights, and heal our divisions.

우리는 새 천년의 탄생 앞에 서서 우주의 신비를 풀고, 질병의 고통으로부터 지구를 해방시키기 위해, 미래의 에너지와 산업과 기술을 강화시킬 준비가 됐습니다. 새로운 국가적 자부심이 우리의 영혼을 일깨우고, 우리의 시야를 높이고, 분열을 치유할 것입니다.

 

지금은 우리 장병들이 결코 잊을 수 없는 옛 지혜를 떠올려야 할 때입니다. 그것은 바로 흑인이나 황색인이나 백인에 관계없이 우리 모두는 똑같이 애국의 붉은 피를 흘리며, 똑같이 영광스러운 자유를 즐기고, 우리 모두가 똑같이 위대한 미국 국기에 경의를 표합니다. (박수)

 

And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they fill their heart with the same dreams, and they are infused with the breath of life by the same almighty Creator.

어느 아이가 디트로이트의 도심 외곽에서 태어나든 네브라스카의 강한 바람이 몰아치는 들판에서 태어나든, 모든 아이들은 똑같은 밤하늘을 바라보고 똑같은 꿈을 가슴에 채우고 그리고 똑같은 전능하신 창조주께서 그들에게 생명을 주십니다. (박수)

 

그러므로 모든 미국민들은, 여러분이 어디에 사시든 지금 제가 드리는 말씀을 들으시기 바랍니다. 여러분은 결코 다시는 무시당하지 않을 것입니다. (박수)

 

Your voice, your hopes, and your dreams will define our American destiny. And your courage and goodness and love will forever guide us along the way.

여러분의 목소리와 희망과 꿈은 미국의 운명을 결정지을 것입니다. 그리고 여러분의 용기와 착함과 사랑은 영원히 우리의 여정을 인도할 것입니다.
