21일 아침(낮)입니다.

새벽 여명을 전후하여 기도와 말씀으로 진을 친 사람의 하루는 정말 멋지고 아름답습니다. 날이 밝기 전에 부르짖음은 그의 기도가 밤중에도 지속되었음을 연상시킵니다. 어쩌면 밤새껏 부르짖었을는지 모릅니다. 그렇게 새벽녘까지 이어지는 기도는 감동적입니다. 이쯤 되면 기도에는 예법도 사라지고 다양한 언어도 빛을 잃습니다. 주님과의 일치와 영적 합일, 성령의 감동과 역사가 긴 시간을 채웁니다.

침묵과 절규를 오가는 기도는 자유롭습니다. ‘해서 드리는 기도가 아니라 되어서 드리는 기도’는 기도하는 즐거움에 깊이 젖어들게 만듭니다. 깨어서 말씀 묵상에 임했든지 아니면 말씀 묵상을 하느라 깨어버렸는지 몰라도 맑은 정신으로 말씀에 초점을 맞춤은 가장 존귀한 일입니다. 그것도 하루의 출발을 알리는 새벽녘이라면 더욱 그렇습니다.

“주님, 주의 말씀이 없었다면 저의 아침 기상은 무척 힘들었을 것입니다. 어둠이 채 걷히기도 전에 말씀이 울려 퍼지고 눈을 뜨기도 전에 말씀이 들려오는 것은 말씀으로 포진된 사람의 특권입니다. 주님의 음성을 듣기 위해 이른 아침에 눈을 밝혔사오니 오늘도 풍성한 말씀의 은혜로 영혼을 배불리시며 하루의 전투 식량에 해당하는 양질의 군량미를 허락하옵소서!”

21. Truthful life strengthened by the Word

I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises. (Psalms 119:147-148)

It's morning (daytime) on Day 21.

How wonderful and beautiful is the day of the man who is encamped in prayer and the Word around the first light of dawn. The cry before daylight reminds us that his prayer lasted through the night. Perhaps he cried out all night long. A prayer that stretches into the pre-dawn hours like that is inspiring. At this point, prayer loses its formality, and the various languages lose their shine. Unity with the Lord, spiritual unity, and the moving and working of the Holy Spirit fill the long hours.

Sometimes silent, sometimes shouting, unstructured prayer is freeing. "Praying because you want to, not because you have to" deepens the joy of prayer. Whether you're awake to meditate on the Word or awake to meditate on the Word, focusing on the Word with a clear mind is a most honorable thing to do, especially if it's at the beginning of the day.

"Lord, if it were not for your Word, my mornings would be very difficult. It is the privilege of the Word-filled person that your Word rings out before the darkness is barely lifted. Your Word is heard before my eyes are opened. Since I have opened my eyes early in the morning to hear your voice, may you fill my soul with the riches of your Word today. Grant me the quality of a day's worth of battle rations!"

21일 저녁(밤)입니다.

어떤 이는 낮에도 졸고 밤에도 잡니다. 파수꾼은 낮에도 깨어 있고 밤에는 더 깨어 있습니다. 파수꾼의 삶이 비록 고달파도 익숙하면 보람 또한 큽니다. 그의 존재는 하나님의 백성들에게 큰 위안이 됩니다. 수많은 적군보다 더 두려운 것은 잠들지 않는 파수꾼의 부재 현상입니다. 깨어 있어야 할 파수꾼이 잠들면 성안 사람들은 불안으로 잠들기 어렵습니다. 시대의 파수꾼이라 일컬어지는 이들이 있습니다. 자칭, 타칭 그렇게 불리는 이들이 적지 않습니다.

비통한 것은 경성한 파수꾼을 찾아보기 힘들다는 엄연한 사실입니다. 깨어 있긴 하지만 조는 시간이 더 많습니다. 이런 파수꾼은 성을 맡기신 주님의 고통입니다. 주님의 백성들은 경고의 신호를 확신할 수 없어 안절부절 합니다. 원수는 비방하고 조롱하며 하나님의 백성을 괴롭힙니다. 경고에 정확한 경성의 파수꾼은 그를 세우신 주님 앞에서 사자같이 담대합니다. 낮에도 깨어 있고 밤에도 졸지 않음을 확신에 친 어조로 외칩니다.

“주님, 파수꾼으로 세워주심에 감사드립니다. 숙면의 은혜보다 경성의 은혜를 주시니 또한 감사합니다. 어둠 속에서도 영적 지각력을 동원하여 원수의 일거수일투족을 면밀히 살피겠습니다. 죽는 날까지 망대 위의 삶을 포기치 말게 하옵시고 원수의 동정을 살피는데 진력케 하옵소서!”

21. Life esteeming vigilance as grace

And the lookout shouted, "Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower; every night I stay at my post. (Isaiah 21:8)

It's evening (night) on Day 21.

Some doze during the day and sleep at night. The watchman is awake during the day and even more awake at night. The watchman's life, though demanding, is also rewarding, and his presence is a great comfort to God's people. More frightening than a multitude of enemies is the absence of a watchman who never sleeps. When the watchman who is supposed to be awake falls asleep, it is difficult for those within the city to fall asleep with anxiety. There are those who have been called the watchmen of the ages. There are many others, self-proclaimed and otherwise, who are called such.

The lamentable truth is that the watchmen of the ages are few and far between. They are awake, but they have more time on their hands. Such watchmen are the pain of the Lord to whom the castle is entrusted. His people are restless, unsure of the warning signs. The enemy slanders, mocks, and harasses God's people. The watchman whose voice is accurate in warning is bold as a lion in the presence of the Lord who set him up; he cries out in a confident tone that he is awake by day and does not slumber by night.

"Lord, thank you for raising me up to be a watchman. I also thank you for giving me the grace of vigilance over the grace of sleep. I will use my spiritual perception in the darkness to scrutinize the enemy's every move. May I never give up my life on the watchtower until the day of my death. May I be strong in watching for the pity of my enemies!“
